I never thought I’d see Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds in a supernatural buddy cop movie together. I know that is an oddly specific thing to NOT expect, but that’s just…how this cookie crumbled. Anyway, a lot of people are calling this a Men In Black rip-off, but the whole secret-service-that-exists-outside-the-general-public’s-knowledge thing can’t be credited to MIB…but I’ll concede the point that the exaggerated cartoonish CGI looks familiar.
Anyway, here’s the trailer for those who haven’t seen it yet:
It doesn’t look spectacular or anything, but I’ll say this: whoever made the casting decisions did a fine job of finding the two main leads that resemble their counterparts from the movie’s original source. Also, MIB/RIPD cross over would be hilarious, especially if they’re portrayed like any other government sectors budging in on the other’s jurisdiction, causing awkward tension to rise between them.
If you have no idea what I’m talking about, look no further! Here’s a clip from South Park that demonstrates this friction between departments better than anyone.
