The Avengers will assemble at this year’s Oscars according to Comic Book. While it was the highest grossing movie of 2013, it did not receive any meaningful nominations, and Oscar show producers, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, want to celebrate their success by reuniting them on the show floor on February 24th. This is what they had to say:
We are happy to re-unite the Avengers cast to present on our show. Audiences who enjoyed the year’s biggest box office hit will be excited to see these terrific actors back together again.
Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo are confirmed to make appearances during the ceremony. Scarlett Johansson is currently appearing on a Broadway piece called Cat On A Hot Tin Roof so she will be a no-show. It’s also been confirmed that Chris Hemsworth (Thor) will be unable to join the rest of the cast for some unknown reason.
I think it’s a shame that there was no mention of Tom Hiddleston or Clark Gregg. I think they deserve to stand alongside their co-stars for what they were able to bring to what was already a full table. Either way, it’s a nice gesture I suppose, though I don’t know why they didn’t do something similar for The Dark Knight back in 2009. I’m still of the mind that they got shafted that year and I’m probably not alone.
