We still don’t have a clue as to who Benedict Cumberbatch is supposed to be portraying (some are claiming it is Khan ) in the movie, but I have taken it upon myself to calling it “Sherlock vs. Captain Kirk. Very original, I know. Regardless of who he is though, his performance will definitely be something to anticipate.
Here’s the Super Bowl trailer.
Now we’ve seen plenty of teasers and trailers before where we see Spock jumping off whatever platform he could find, but it’s the first time we see the Enterprise crashing into a city. I don’t know about you, but my guess is that it’ll have something to do with Benedict (we’re pen pals).
Here’s the synopsis for the movie:
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes “Star Trek Into Darkness.”
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.
As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
Star Trek: Into Darkness comes out on May 17th.
P.S. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while, but the co-leads (Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman) of BBC’s Sherlock seems to be doing pretty well for themselves. One is in Star Trek and the other one’s in The Hobbit, and are well on their way to firmly establishing themselves at the forefront of nerd pop culture.
