DC’s answer to Marvel’s The Avengers, Justice League, has been on the news for quite some time now. Today, Latino-Review is reporting that the people behind this illustrious team has dwindled the membership down to five and they are as follows:
3) Wonder Woman
4) Green Lantern
5) The Flash
That’s about as safe as you can get with that list, but I have no problem with it. The Avengers didn’t exactly run with a unique ensemble either and it would only stir the rage pot if they went another way. However, DC does have all of their property licenses under one tent pole, so perhaps they ought to have taken advantage of that fact to differentiate themselves from The Avengers. Either way, it is a shame that Aquaman and Martian Manhunter are only on the “slim chance of making cameo appearances” list since I think those two deserve some exposure, especially the Atlantean King. He gets a lot of unwarranted ridicule from people who don’t remember that more than half the planet’s surface is covered by water. So they have a single member patrolling about seventy percent of Earth and they dare to disrespect him because he “talks to fish.” I remember reading somewhere that he gathered a group of whales and made them cause a tsunami to wipe out an island or something.
Enough with my Aquaman fawning though. Currently, they don’t have a director and they recently hired Will Beall (Gangster Squad, Castle) to write the screenplay. Yes, that doesn’t really instill much confidence for this project, but he’s already got a misfire under his belt (which means he’s already messed up before and hopefully got that out of his system) and people seem to really dig Castle, so I’ll try to be optimistic. Plus, Warner Brothers is fashioning this to become one of their biggest summer flagship ever so they can’t afford any missteps. I’m sure the script will go through dozens of rewrites while they look for suitable actors and a director to helm the project. I am super crossing my finger for all this to come out smelling like daisies.
