The people in charge of bringing us the new Robocop film had not been shy about revealing concept arts and set photos since they announced that it’s being delayed. I personally enjoyed the look of the new reboot, but it’s also been a target of a lot of fanboys’ ire. Sure, the sleek redesign can evoke the same feel as Iron Man, but I think it has a lot more to do with the new age science fiction trope: everything has to look like Apple products; super shiny, compact, and expensive. It’s like how everything from the 70’s looked all clunky and colorful; it’s just what the times demand from what we consider futuristic movies because that’s how we envision things now as a collective. Who knows how radically different our science fiction movies will look like in another twenty years?
Anyway, they just released this little doozy.
It’s an EM-208, and these humanoid drones are supposedly the early versions of RoboCop. It’s all wired on the back, so I’m wondering if these all need to be charged by an external power source to move around. Anyway, I’m thinking these things fall into the wrong hands and RoboCop will be forced to take them on and prove to the skeptics that he’s necessary to take on other cybernetic threats.
Robocop will premiere on February 7, 2014.
